Christmas Door Decor 2010

I finally finished my Christmas Door Decor for this year! Usually I go big and bold with green and red poly mesh but this year I have a certain obsession with burlap and decided to doll up my door with that instead. This is how it looks in the light of day.

I took apart last year's wreath and randomly wired in glittery red ornaments leaving enough room at the top for a big burlap bow. I am in love (until next year when I disassemble and do something different, ahem).

I wasn't sure the look would hold up at night but I think it looks pretty fabulous in the evening as well. Can I get a woo hoooo!?

In case you are interested in how I pulled this altogether, I cut my burlap into 18 inch strips. It's easy to cut a straight line with burlap by removing the thread across the fabric where you want to cut. Then use that as your guide! I followed my normal routine for adding mesh to the door using the burlap instead. Then I layered in ribbon and ornaments to finish off the look.

Call me lazy, but I didn't want to get out my Christmas topiaries. I left them decorated from last year and just didn't want to mess with taking them apart. So I added a green wreath to the top of my urns, draped the bottom of the lighted garland around the top, and tucked in more shiny red ornaments. It's not exactly what I had in mind, but it works for me!

I just love how it all came together. I think it is even better in person that it was in my mind.

Do you do the same thing on your door each year or do you mix it up?
